Check out the project brief here
Project Timeline: 1 month
Mentor: Ar. Antara Jha, Studio TAB
Background: Done during my 6 months internship as an architect intern at Studio TAB, Mumbai. Xai-Xai District in the Gaza province of Mozambique suffers from a significant lack of financial resources and human rights. Differently abled children are often shunned and treated with contempt. Assa, a Mozambican teacher aims to build a school with community and NGO help that can offer a safe space for such kids up to the age of 5.
The topic presented several challenges such as a landscaped terrain, lack of heavy duty machinery, skilled labourers and financial resources. The final solution is a vernacular-style, environment responsive open-building that creates explorative pockets where children can experience via multiple senses like sound, touch, and smell.
Keywords: preschool design, community built project, sustainable architecture
